What is bovine tuberculosis?

Bovine tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic disease caused by a bacteria called Mycobacterium bovis (M.bovis) which is closely related to the bacteria that cause human and avian tuberculosis. This disease can affect practically all mammals, causing a general state of illness, coughing, and eventual death.

Until the 1920s when control measures began in developed countries, it was one of the major diseases of domestic animals throughout the world. Today TB remains an important disease of cattle, wild animals, and is a significant zoonosis (a disease of animals that can also infect humans).

TB is a disease listed in the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) Terrestrial Animal Health Code, and must be reported to the OIE as detailed in the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code.

Diagnostic Testing

The standard method for the detection of TB is the tuberculin test, where a small amount of antigen is injected into the skin, and the immune reaction is measured.

Persons who wish to prepare for use and/or use products for the purposes specified in this permit must read or have read to them, the details and conditions of this permit.

OBSERVE AVIAN TUBERCULIN 25,000 IU/Ml 1 x 20 doses

The following conditions apply in all Australian jurisdictions:

1. The products can only be supplied to or used by registered veterinary surgeons.

2. The products must be administered in accordance with the Directions for Use.

   Use under the permit is approved in cattle only - testing for bovine tuberculosis, Intradermal injection of 0.1ml.

   Unless otherwise stated, apply in accordance with the Product Information Leaflet.

   The product must not be used past the container listed expiry date.

3. The products can only be supplied in Australia with the following approvals based on the State or Territory of use:

   QUEENSLAND:

   For animals destined for export, all tests must be conducted by a registered veterinarian in AQIS approved facilities/ feedlots.

   ALL OTHER STATES/ TERRITORIES:

   Supply must be approved by the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), or delegated State Veterinary Officer.

4. Any off-label or unauthorised use of the products is strictly prohibited.

To ensure the conditions of supply are met all customers must complete the Australian Order Form and Declaration of Use when submitting orders. Orders can only be accepted from a customer with a valid account set up with AsureQuality Diagnostics.

1. The product can only be sold to an approved trader, or to any person with a veterinary prescription or authorisation, or to persons approved under Section 103 of the Biosecurity Act 1993.

2. The product must be administered to an animal only by a veterinarian, or under and in accordance with the authority or prescription of a veterinarian, or by persons approved under Section 103 of the Biosecurity Act 1993 when applying cattle and deer tuberculin tests.
